At St. Peter, children are invited to receive First Reconciliation (Confession) and receive First Holy Communion in the second grade. Those in grades 7th and 8th are invited to receive Confirmation. Children older than these guidelines need to contact the Director of Religious Education to make arrangements to receive sacraments.
Preparing for a First Communion is a two year process. Children wishing to receive a sacrament must have been involved in a Religious Education Program, either here at St. Peter, in another parish, or attended a Catholic grade school for at least 1 year prior to receiving a sacrament. If from another parish, a letter from the Director of Religious Education is requested stating past involvement. Students of Relgious Education should attend classes from K/1st grade and continue through to 8th grade.
The Diocese of Rockford requires a copy of the Baptism Certificate to be on file in order to receive other sacraments in the church. If your child was Baptized at St. Peter Church, that certificate is already on file. If your child was Baptized at another church, please contact them to get a copy in order for your child to be enrolled in our Religious Education Program. If your child has not been Baptized, please contact the Parish Office and ask to speak to the Director of Religious Education. You will need to schedule a meeting with our Director and Fr. in order to proceed in our Religious Education Program.
